And then sport moved into a new era, South Africa was no longer sanctioned and our Country could participate in world cups etc and this drew a bigger population wanting to migrate to satellite due to the sport being televised there and yes, at a later stage on the FREE antenna setup as well, but who wanted to watch it later … we wanted to see it live, and here was born a very big broadcaster in this country to date.
Fast forward maybe a decade and everyone watching television shows from abroad kept on hearing those television shows about “cable”. A very popular movie that comes to mind is the “Cable Guy” Jim Carrey a very popular comedian-actor from the United States acts in it.
- Talking about a movie,
- For these movies, we had to go to a video store and rent them on tape as we went to the library for books.
- Later, these tapes were replaced by discs and then DVDs
- And now these stores do not exist.
- But back to the movie…
- The client would be able to order “cable” which meant he would have a device that would wireless connect directly to satellite infrastructure, whereby he could connect to any broadcaster and watch what he would like, sports, news, movies etc.
Fast forward another decade, the internet now went from these telephone line dial-ups to little modems and fixed lines… and just keep getting faster and faster and now even wireless…
